Aimee Mann wrote the songs in Magnolia. Writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson has said that he was inspired by Mann's "Wise Up" during the writing of Mangolia; the song appears in the film.

The soundtrack also includes Mann's "One," "Momentum," "Build That Wall," "Deathly," "Driving Sideways," "You Do," "Nothing Is Good Enough," and "Save Me."

Mann is married to singer-songwriter Michael Penn.
