Ground Rules
At this point, the Magnolia Project is in its infancy, meaning that most pages are basically shells waiting to be filled. To help this project meet its goals, please keep the following ground rules in mind.
Add Rather Than Subtract
- Unlike Wikipedia (the most widely known wiki), the Magnolia Project welcomes original ideas and analysis. The most important contribution any person can make is fresh thinking.
- When editing documents, avoid removing existing content. Instead, follow these guidelines:
- When in doubt, use the "Discuss" tab in any document to raise questions and concerns.
- If you know a fact is wrong, correct it.
- If you suspect a fact is wrong, make a note in bold in the document or use the "Discuss" tab to raise the question.
- If an analysis lacks supporting evidence within a document, contribute supporting evidence or make a note in the document in bold that evidence needs to be added.
- If you believe an analysis or interpretation to be obviously untenable, copy the offending argument to the "Discuss" tab of the document and explain your position.
- If something in a document is clearly off-topic for that specific document, move the content to a more-appropriate page, or create a new document.
- If something in a document is clearly off-topic for the Magnolia Project -- that is, it has no relationship to the movie and is not part of a larger argument related to the movie -- delete it.
Be responsible
- Respect the intellectual property of others. Do not pass off other people's ideas or words as your own. Give credit where credit is due.
- Source well. When referencing the work of others, cite the author and the name of the work. If the source is available online, add a hyperlink. Be clear when quoting the source directly.
